  • Paper 

Paper has been a very great invention and has helped humans in many ways. From books to paper money and many more. 

The history of paper dates back almost 2,000 years to when inventors in china crafted cloth sheets to record their drawings and writings. Before then, people placed their records on stones, bones, cave walls and clay tablets.

Paper as we know it today was first made in Lei-Yang in China by Ts'ai Lun, a Chineese court official. In all likelihood, Ts'ai mixed mulberry bark, hemp and rags with water, mashed it into pulp, pressed out the liquid, and hung the thin mat to dry in the sun. During the 8th Century, Muslims (from the region that is now Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq) learned the chinese secret of papermaking when they captured a chinese paper mill. 

Since then, Paper has been used in making all sorts of things such as printing, packaging, decorating, writing, cleaning, filter ppaer, wallpaper, book endpaper, currency, and what you can think of.

 

 

  • Compass

A compass is an instrument containing a magnetised pointer which shows the direction of magnetic north and bearings from it. It is used purposefully for navigations.

History of Compasses dates back to 206 BC

The magnetic compass was first invented as device for divination as chinese han dynasty and tang Dynasty (Since about 206 BC). The compass was used in Song Dynasty by the military for navigational orienteering by 1040 - 44 and was used for maritime navigation by 1111 to 1117. 

The compass has been classified as one of the top 10 inventions because it has help in many other inventions such as the airplanes and ships. It made navigations very easy and so to travelling.

  • Refrigeration

Our Eighth top invention is the refrigerator. Since the old, most people used archaic ways of preserving foods. Such ways were not dependable as it was for a very short while. A saviour for all these problems appeared and solved the problem that hindered humans from preserving food for a very long time. 

In 1834, American Inventor, Jacod Perkins, living in Lodnodn at the time, built the world's first working vapor-compression refrigeration system, using ehter in a closed cycle. His prototype system worked and was the first step to modern refrigerators though it didn't succeed commercially. 

In 1913, It was later modernised or advanced by  Frigidaire. He introduced the first self-contained unit. The introduction of Freon in the 1920s expanded the refrigerator market during the 1930s. Home Freezers as separate compartments were later introduced in 1940s. 

  • Printing Press 

Printing Press, machine by which text and images are transferred to paper or other media by means of ink. Although movable type, as well as paper, first appeared in Chia, it was in Europe that printing became mechanized. The earliest mention of a printing press is in a lawsuit in Strasbourg in 1439. Printing press has been recognised as one of the greatest inventions because it has helped humans to share and store many information on paper. 

  • Plumbing

Plumbing is the system of pipes, tanks, fittings and other apparatus required for the water supply, heating and sanitation in a building.

It's defined in most dictionaries as the work of installing and mainting a water supply and sanitation systems in buildings.

Plumbing was invented during the time of the Roman Empire, roughly between 500 BC and AD 476, basic plumbing structures evolved into extensive systems that carried water and are regarded as models for the sinks, showers, tubs, toilets, and drains we use today. The Romans built aqueducts to transport water from the country into Rome. Plumbing has made water drainage systems in our cities very easier and through that we have been able to solve most flooding problems. All these came to existence from very olden egyptian civilization.

  • Medicine

The History of Medicine shows how societies have changed in their approach to illness and disease from ancient times to the present. Early medical traditions include those of Babylon, China, Egypt and India. Sushruta, from India, introduced the concepts of medical diagnosis and prognosis. Medicine is classified as one of the major inventions because it has helped cured or reduced many ailments.

  • Engines

An engine or motor is a machine designed to convert one form of energy into mechanical energy. There are many forms or types of engines and now, the most common is the thermal engines. Engine was invented in 1872 by American George Brayton. It was later improved by Nicolaus Otto in 1876. Through engines, we now have vehicles, aircrafts, ships, rockets, and many more. This invention has made work in the world very easy and is classified as one of the greatest inventions of all time.

  • Wheel

Wheels were invented in Mesopotamia about 5,500 years ago. The wheel barrow, a simple cart with a single wheel was invented by the ancient greeks. Though wheels are mainly used for transportations, they are also used to navigate, spin thread and generate wind and hydroelectric power. 

  • Electronic Communications

The genius behind all electronic communications is Samuel Morse. Samuel Morse, in 1836, developed Morse Code which allowed signals to be sent over the wires to repesent words and phrases. Around 40 years after telegraph, Alexander Graham Bell received the patent for the telephone. Through this great inventions, humans now have phones that enables us to communicate with our loved ones from a far distance.
