The NDC since the elections 2020 has been talking in some illegal activities that happened in the Elections. Barring any last minute changges, the National Democratic Party (NDC finally files petition today as they ain't clear about their defeat. This is not really to change the results as declared by the EC's chair, Jean Mensa but to clear any doubt. After the filing, Mr. Mahama will address a press conference at a location yet to be announced.
The NDC is well equipped as their legal team consists of Tsatsu Tsikata, Nana Ato Dadzie, Fui Tsikata, Dominic Ayeni, Tony Lithur, Dr. Bassit Bamba, Victor Kojoga Adawudu, Edudzi Kudzo Tameklo, Samuel Cudjoe, Dr. Abraham Amaliba and Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, and many more.
Some of the lawyers think that based on the numbers announced by the EC, the election shouldn't have ended victory for Nana Addo Dankwah (H.E) but for the NDC. The many times she changed the figures she declared but kept saying the changes were not affecting the overall percentages obtained by the 17 candidates who partook the race. The group has a collated results from over 18,000 polling stations as evidence to support the case.
For now, all attention is on the Chief Justice, Justice Anin Yeboah, as to whether he would allow cameras in the courtroom as happened in 2013 on the 2012 Elections. Chief Justice Wood, in 2013, allowed cameras into the courtroom, following request made by Gabby Asare-Otchere Darko of the NPP for a live broadcast of the preceedings of their petition contesting the 2012 general elections result. Following what happened in 2013, Dr. Amaliba said such request would be given in the interest of fairness.
The NDC's Lawyer, Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, formally announced that the petition would be filed this week Wednesday, but the party has made arrangements to do so a day ahead of time.
Also on the bill, is the parliamentary results of the Techiman South Constituency, where the results declared in favour of Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsa, has been challenged by the NDC, which is demanding some documents as proof that the NPP candidate had won the seat at a place where John Dramani Mahama won the presidentials with 52,034 against Nana Akufo-Addo with 46,379 votes.
The NDC flagbearer, John Mahama, has refused to accept Akufo-Addo's victory. He described the results as announced by the EC's chair, Jean Mensa as fiction and there is no truth in it.
He said, "I stand before you tonight unwilling to accept the fictionalised result of a flawed election. What we witnessed across the country from Monday, 7th of December, 2020, exposed a deliberate plan to fudge and misrepresent the election results in favour of the NPP's candidate, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo."
Based on the results announced by the EC, the NPP won with 6,730,587 (51.30%) of total votes cast.
Mr. Mahama who came second had 6,213,182 votes which is 47.34% of the total votes cast.
